Rodney Spooner’s artworks explore architecture, civic space and social systems through sculptural installation rather than traditional painting.

Working frequently with cement, cardboard and industrial materials, he constructs modular, wall based works that resemble fragments of buildings or urban plans.

His installations invite viewers to consider how structures – legal, bureaucratic or architectural – shape behaviour and thought.

Characterised by restraint, repetition and material tension, Spooner’s practice reflects on civilisation, order, and control, positioning everyday construction materials as carriers of cultural meaning within contemporary Australian art.

Unpacked Impressions can be viewed on Plaza Level.
