Luke Roberts is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, performance, photography and installation. Emerging in the late 1970s, his work brings together the personal and the political, drawing on Catholic iconography, rural autobiography, science fiction and queer cosmology.

Developed between the late 1980s and early 1990s, Roberts’ Exorcism paintings are large-scale mixed-media works that combine painting with assemblage and performative gesture. Infused with Catholic symbolism and personal memory, they function as acts of psychic release, confronting repression, identity and spiritual control through theatrical intensity and layered materiality.

Exorcism I and Exorcism III are on display on the Mezzanine Level at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Exorcism III can be viewed on Mezzanine Level.
