Philip Cox is an Australian architect‑artist whose painting practice is deeply informed by long observation of the New South Wales south coast. His works inspired by Barragoot Swamp, near Bermagui, explore the subtle rhythms of wetland landscapes – water, reeds, light and seasonal change. Rather than literal depiction, Cox builds layered compositions that evoke atmosphere, movement and ecological balance. Colour and gesture register shifts in weather and time, reflecting a sustained, embodied engagement with place. These paintings sit between abstraction and landscape, expressing the emotive presence of Country through restraint, structure and immersion in the natural environment.
Barragoot Swamp can be viewed on Foyer Level.
