“I am Tjilala, a Warlpiri Woman from Central Australia now based in Brisbane as a performing artist. My roots in the heart of Australia have shaped not only who I am but also the way I express myself through dance, song and performance. I chose to have my portrait taken amongst nature because my dance practice is deeply inspired by my connection to land. My happiest place is on Country, surrounded by the clean earth, trees, fresh air and open skies. These elements feed my creativity and help me find balance and clarity in my work.

When I dance barefoot in nature, I feel like I am in sync with the rhythms of Country. My body moves in conversation with the natural world, reflecting its strength, grace and resilience. I also draw strength and resilience from my ancestry, embracing the traditions of my ancestors while also exploring contemporary forms of artistic expression.

Nature, for me, is not just a backdrop. It’s an essential part of my creative process. It is where I feel most alive and most free to express myself and tell my stories. My art is a celebration of the connection between the land, culture, and the movement that flows through them. No matter where I am, when I dance, I step into a different realm.”
