Judith Wright is one of Queensland’s most respected artists, working across a range of media including painting, sculpture and video to explore themes of loss, memory, and the human form. Before becoming a visual artist, Wright was a dancer with the Australian Ballet and through her minimalist forms, Wright evokes the body through shadows, shapes and subtle movement.
Fires of solitude is dominated by two large oval forms; one white and closed, the second black and open. Their edges are just touching, as if two heads moving towards an embrace. The forms are set against a dense reddish-brown background, made up of thick layers of acrylic paint.
Fires of Solitude can be viewed on Plaza Level.
