Brisbane has been announced as the host city for the International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG2029), the world’s largest LNG event, marking a major win for Australia’s energy sector and the city’s global reputation.

The event, launched to the global LNG community in February at LNG2026 in Doha, Qatar, is anticipated to attract more than 4,200 international energy leaders, innovators and policymakers from over 80 countries to Brisbane, reinforcing its position as a strategic gateway to the Asia-Pacific and a driving force in the global energy transition.

LNG2029 will take place at the Legends Global-managed Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) and is the most influential event in the LNG calendar, shaping the future of energy through high-level dialogue, innovation show cases and critical commercial negotiations.

Queensland is a cornerstone of Australia’s LNG export industry, supplying energy to key Asian markets and driving economic growth. Queensland LNG plays a vital role in securing reliable energy for our region, reducing emissions and enabling renewable energy integration, making this event a pivotal platform for shaping the future for global energy.

Brisbane’s winning edge included its position as the closest major Australian capital to East Asia, its world-class facilities at BCEC and its global visibility in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

Led by the Australian Gas Industry Trust (AGIT) in partnership with Australian Energy Producers (AEP), the Queensland component of the international bid was coordinated by Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, in partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) and Tourism Australia (TA).

Queensland Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell MP said landing the event was a great outcome for Queensland. “LNG2029 is set to deliver huge benefits for our state, injecting up to $19 million into our economy and generating more than 16,800 visitor nights,” Minister Powell said.

“With thousands of people from more than 80 countries attending the event this is another opportunity for Queensland to shine on the world stage while bringing more business to the local operators and small businesses that keep our tourism industry going. We secured this event through TEQ’s Business Events Acquisition and Leveraging Fund because the Crisafulli Government is committed to attracting major events that create jobs and show off everything Queensland has to offer.”

Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last said Queensland’s world-class LNG industry delivered energy to the world and supports thousands of regional jobs. “Hosting LNG2029 sends a clear message that Queensland is open for business and is a global endorsement of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to make clear decisions, cut red tape and back the gas industry with real intent,” Minister Last said.

“Queensland is a global leader in liquified natural gas, and we are serious about growing our gas sector, creating more highly skilled jobs and working with industry to deliver long-term energy security for Australia and the world.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said being selected to host LNG2029 highlighted the city’s growing reputation as a leader in energy and innovation. “Energy and resources play a major role in powering our city’s $200 billion economy, supporting jobs, trade and investment across Brisbane and Queensland,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Hosting LNG2029 is a great recognition of the expertise we have here in Brisbane and the important role our city is playing in shaping the future of energy. We’re excited to welcome thousands of delegates from around the world to share ideas, build new partnerships and experience everything our city has to offer.”

Robin Mack, Tourism Australia Managing Director says, “Through our Bid Fund Program, Tourism Australia is proud to support Brisbane’s latest international event win. To date, the Bid Fund initiative has secured more than $1.5 billion in economic value, and plays a vital role in locking in a consistent event pipeline through to 2032.”

The LNG industry contributes billions of dollars annually to Queensland’s economy, supporting thousands of jobs and driving regional development.
