BCEC Convention Advocates Partnership puts science on show

Birthplace of the world’s first ever cancer vaccine – Brisbane is acknowledged as a leading international research and scientific hub.

Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, through their newly formed Convention Advocates Partnership brings together a group of influential and dynamic scientists, researchers and academics who are international leaders in their fields, in a collaborative partnership to boost the profile and standing of Brisbane internationally.

The importance and merit of harnessing academia, research and business events for the economic and intellectual advancement of Brisbane is one of the influencing factors behind the BCEC Advocates Partnership initiative.

BCEC Advocates Partnership has a major role to play in showcasing Brisbane’s world changing science to the international community and in promoting the city’s potential as a destination for international conferences and events, resulting in increased international conventions for the city and the Centre.

The Convention Advocates Partnership recognises the talents and achievements of this eminent group of professionals and draws on their knowledge and international leadership in their particular areas of speciality to develop future opportunities in the evolvement of Brisbane as a popular location for scientific and research sector communities.

These are true Brisbane advocates who share the vision and passion and champion the cause of the city’s creativity, knowledge and innovation. BCEC Advocates work across a number of key sectors including science, health, ICT, biotechnology, environmental education and engineering.

The Advocates Partnership has already delivered results with the securing of two specialist international meetings and a regional conference as well as two corporate events with further leads for a second regional conference and two additional corporate events, all from the sectors represented by the Advocates.

BCEC Advocates Partnership was launched on February 18 by Queensland’s Minister for Tourism and Fair Trading, the Hon Peter Lawlor at an exclusive dinner where the best of the best of science and innovation dominated the agenda.

The seven course degustation dinner prepared by the Centre’s award winning Chefs featured local regional foods and artisan produce with matching Australian wines and was held in the Centre’s Plaza Ballroom with one long banquet table – described as the largest academic table ever.
